Nonprofit Marketing Ideas

Updated: Sep 12, 2023

In a few weeks, I will be attending the annual CAFO2023 Summit in Oklahoma City. I will be attending several presentations and I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us! It should be an excellent conference. Once I’m back, I’ll be sure to share everything I learned. Until then, however, here are a few marketing ideas for your nonprofit.

Your Organization's Website

You should create a website for your organization and update it often. Your website is often your first impression on donors, volunteers and future staff or supporters. It is a vital source of information about your cause and purpose. It should also offer other materials like statistics, stories and how your nonprofit or church is making an impact in the community you serve.

Keep Your Social Media Updated

To do this, you need to know what is popular and important to your followers. I highly suggest utilizing YouTube because almost half of all internet users view videos on it and YouTube gets a billion visitors each month! You should also consider making accounts on Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram. After you create your accounts and have your content ready to go, make sure you are engaging with your followers! It is called "social" media for a reason.

Not sure what to post? Schedule a Marketing Strategy Session with the MJD team here. We will create a custom content calendar for you and you will receive 2 hours of my time on retainer for any graphics, videos or extra advice you may need to be successful.

Create a Blog

Your organization needs to start and maintain a blog. Blogging is one of the most effective ways of sharing current happenings within your nonprofit or church. They can also provide information to those who want to learn more about what you do before becoming involved. You can write about multiple topics, including tips for other nonprofits, current news or simply share experiences from your staff, volunteers or people you have helped. Sharing tips on a blog can demonstrate expertise and providing free information will expand your positive impact.

Connect Your Blog, Website and Social Media

Your followers want to easily view extra information. To do this, you need to use backlinks and directories throughout your blog, website and social media. Creating a network like this will create a larger conversation and opens new opportunities for your followers. Making your website and online presence easy to use give your visitors a good experience, which makes them more likely to visit frequently or share it with their friends or family.

Always Include Video

Creating videos and using images to appeal to emotions can be a great way to connect with your donors and followers. Even short videos (like Reels) or just one incredible image can be very powerful. A video can be easily viewed, conveying meaningful information quickly, and people appreciate this use of media. Make sure you use subtitles and make it fun! Videos are another way to show off your organization's personality and what you are all about to new followers.
